Viking sword, Petersen H type, various blade lengths, without sheath
Battle ready (practical cut), SK-B
This battle-ready Viking sword was developed in close cooperation with fencing and martial arts instructor Volker Kunkel and his West-Coast-Institute. Unfortunately, Volker did not live to see the launch of this small series on the market. He passed away very early, in April 2021.
The goal was to offer a sturdy, yet light and well-balanced sword, ready for battle, with a smaller budget. Here, Volker contributed his many years of experience as a fencing teacher, trainer, and traveling merchant in medieval markets. The Ulfberth® team and their blacksmiths have implemented these specifications and the result is a battle-ready Viking sword with a great value for money.
Based on the original from 9 to 10 c. examples found in Birka, Sweden, and classified as Type H/I according to Petersen's Viking sword typology, features a spring steel forged blade, which has been hardened in oil and tempered with a Rockwell hardness of approx. 48-52 HRC. The very wide fuller makes it flexible and lightweight. The sword comes with approx. 2 - Edges 2.5 mm thick and tip rounded and relatively wide, which makes it eligible for combat on stage.
Like many surviving historical examples of the time, the triangular pommel is a two-part construction: the complete spike of the blade is anchored to the lower section and the pommel cap is fixed to the base by means of two rivets.
This sword is available with two different blade lengths (select the model you need from the drop-down menu: short = 64 cm / long = 74 cm). The short version is particularly ideal as a beginner's sword for fencers who are not yet very strong.
Matching leather sheaths with sword belt (product no. ULF-SW-11SA or ULF-SW-11SB) are available separately.

On 21 July 1403, the Battle of Shrewsbury (Shropshire, England) saw Henry IV of England win over an army led by his former supporter, Sir Henry Harry Hotspur Percy of Northumberland (made forever famous by Shakespeare in his 1598 story). play Henry IV Part I). Percy, who turned against the king and allied himself with Owain Glyndwr, the rebel leader of the Welsh Revolution from 1400 to 1415 (also known as Glyndwr Rising), was killed during the scuffled, causing his army to disperse and the rebellion to fall apart.
Named after this decisive battle, the original Shrewsbury Sword, classified as Type XV by Ewart Oakeshott, is kept in the Wallace Collection.

This blouse, very feminine and sleeveless, is made of cotton fabric and is lightly adapted. The elastic band meets at the cuffs and rounded and ruffled neckline, ensuring a good fit, and small slits at the side seams enhance comfort.
Historically, blouses should be attributed to the Renaissance and not to the Middle Ages. However, when combined with a skirt and a bodice or a corset belt, they create a beautiful medieval appearance. They can also be paired well with a sleeveless or short-sleeved dress.
This calf-length tunic is made of sturdy cotton fabric. It has a straight cut and side slits from the waist down. It also features a slightly shorter slit in the center of the front and back.
The tunic or tabard (also surcote, German: Waffenrock or Waffenkleid) emerged in the twelfth century and was worn by knights over their plate armor or chainmail. It was primarily designed to protect its wearer from direct sunlight on the battlefield, and the various color combinations were a decisive means of distinguishing brothers-in-arms from foes in the fray.
Mi-Parti/Miparti refers to the division of one garment into different colors (mostly two). Clothes multicoloredwere quite popular in the Middle Ages. Although such garments were predominantly vertically divided, models with a four-square checkerboard pattern in two colors are also documented. In most cases, the composition of colors had a markedly symbolic character. Examples of coloured tunics can be found, among others, in the Stuttgart Psalter and in the Morgan Chronicles M.804. In general, numerous illustrations testify to the prevalence of knight's tunics or tabards in medieval times, for example, paintings from Morgan's Bible (also known as the Maciejowski Bible or Crusader Bible), a medieval illustrated Bible from the thirteenth century, and miniatures from the Codex Manesse, an illuminated manuscript of songs from the early fourteenth century. A characteristic of the trench coat is its simple and straight cut. For an authentic look, we recommend pairing the tunic with a leather belt. Please note: delivery includes tabard only!
