This beautifully detailed Viking sword is a reconstruction of an exquisitely crafted and remarkably well-preserved cemetery, excavated at Hedeby (also called Haithabu) and believed to have belonged to a 9th-century Danish nobleman or a wealthy Viking warrior. The original archaeological piece is on display at the Hedeby Viking Museum. The Viking-era site of Hedeby, the most significant Viking settlement and trading site on the Jutland peninsula (near the town of Schleswig, once in Danish territory and now in northern Germany), was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2018.

In terms of shape, this one-hand sword is a classic example of a Nordic weapon wielded by the Vikings. It has the typical features of a traditional Dark Age sword: a short guard, a straight double-edged blade with a wide fuller and a distinctive multi-lobe handle.

The blade of this replica is forged in Damascus steel *. The edges are not sharp and the complete blade spike is riveted into the handle. The wooden core handle is bound in red leather and features richly decorated brass rings at both ends. The approx. The 14 cm long, 2 cm thick protection and the generously sized five-lobe handle are cast into brass and closely recreate the highly detailed engraved motifs and patterns of the original artifact.

This early Middle Age one-hand sword comes complete with a wooden sheath and red leather with old-fashioned and finely detailed brass choker, plate and belt clip (maximum belt width of 6 cm).

Note that this sword is not a weapon ready for battle. It is designed as a collector's piece or decoration/display and is not suitable for combat reenactment. In addition to its collection quality, it is also perfectly suited as prop, e. to complete your costume.

A regular version of this sword with EN45 spring steel blade is also available in our store (Product No. 0116041400).
