At the Council of Troyes in 1128, the Order of the Temple was recognized by Pope Honorius II. Knights received the white robe as a symbol of the purity of his life, which Pope Eugenius added to the Red Cross in 1146. King Baldwin II, king of Jerusalem, installed in the Order in an area of the Jerusalem palace believed to be the temple of Solomon, who bear the name of the Knights Templar or Templars.
