This wide and wide medieval dress is made of light cotton. The skirt is equipped with side gums (wedge-shaped fabric pieces/ triangular), allowing a generous enlargement. It features a wide neckline to remain hidden under the outer part at neck height. The sleeves feature a lace for individual fit. At first well-adjusted at the top of the arm, they fall into a particularly wide flare that gives them their characteristic trumpet shape. This change can be used under an overcoat, a cotehardie or a bliaut.

Outerwear and sweaters or shirts with substantially enlarged sleeves emerged around the 12th century. They were not only used for fashion purposes, but also as a symbol of superior social status, as wide sleeves were not suitable for the working classes. In the 12th/13th century, men and women wore simple uniforms with trumpet sleeves as underwear to better preserve their increasingly fitted outer wear, often richly adorned. The change usually did not appear under the outer clothes, as it would be considered inadequate. 12th century illustrations of wide sleeves can be found, among others, in the fresco that shows Sant'Elena in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Milan or in the illuminated encyclopedia Hortus Peliciarum (ca. 1180).

In the 15th century, shifts with trumpet sleeves could also be worn in a short-sleeved cotehardie (a comfortable-fitting dress or tunic with laces or a button-down clasp facing center) and were therefore designed to be visible as an integral part of the outfit. Historical illustrations of wide-cut sleeves from this period can be found, for example, in the painting Madonna with Angels and Saints, by Gerard David .

How to find the right size:
To take the measurements of the body correctly in order to determine the size of the clothes, always wrap the measuring tape horizontally around your body in the wider part. For dresses, the sizes are based on breast circumference.
If you happen to be between two sizes, we recommend that you increase a size.
The facility is included in the pattern and reflected in the completed measurements.
