This medieval long dress made of solid cotton fabric (canvas) has a cut at the waist. On the skirt part, the so-called geren (fabric wedges) are used, which create a generous hem width. The center of the front is tied with a strong cotton ribbon - so that the women's dress can be individually adapted to the body. Thanks to the nest tips at both ends, the ribbon can be easily pulled through the embroidered eyelets. To keep the dress as authentic as possible, the bow has been deliberately used here, even if it is much more time-consuming than a zipper
.
The cut of the dress is based on medieval depictions from the 13th to 15th centuries. While women's clothes were quite loose before this time and concealed the shapes of the body, the clothes now became more and more hugging the body. Originally bred in France from the loose cotte, the Cotehardie (more or less bold cotte in German) probably owes its name to this body-hugging cut.

Typical for a cotehardie are the lace or buttons in the center of the front. These only appeared at that time and finally allowed a tight adjustment. The ever-increasing neckline was also characteristic of these dresses and very popular with women in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Usually, the cotehardie was paired with an undergarment, a veil, and a narrow belt. A short-sleeved cotehardie was also often worn with lapel sleeves, which were attached to the sleeve hem with a pin.

Depictions of a Cotehardy of the time can be found, for example, on the June calendar page of the Duke of Berry's Book of Hours, a French illuminated manuscript (original title: Les Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry), or in the Book of Simple Medicine (Virgin and Unicorn), illustrated by Robinet Testard, both from the 15th century.
