The elegantly simple lines of the Paul Chen/Hanwei Golden Oriole Wakizashi have long been favored by admirers of the Japanese sword.
The story told by the impressive tsuba is of a praying mantis chasing a cricket, not knowing that he himself is being chased by a golden porcupine.
The blade is hand forged in high carbon steel and hardened differentially to display a distinctive hamon. The deeply varnished blue of the saya is repeated in Japanese cotton tsuka-ito , and a cricket motif appears again in kashira . Each Wakizashi comes with a custom cloth bag for proper protection and a Japanese blade maintenance kit.
The corresponding Golden Oriole Katana (Product No. SH1018) is also available to complete your collection.

A gambeson is almost indispensable for free and exhibition fights. The gambeson, also called the gambison, armored doublet, or aceton, was worn under chain or plate armor in the Middle Ages. It increased the wearing comfort of the knight's armor and was also able to absorb the blows of opponents and thus reduce the risk of injury.
This gambeson from Ulfberth is made of three layers of fabric: an outer layer of cotton fabric (canvas), a layer of polyester padding, and a cotton inner lining. The padding on the upper body is diamond-shaped. At the waist, the padding is horizontal and in the hip region and arms, the padding is vertical. The gambeson is closed with leather straps and metal straps in the center of the front. The stitched leather details reinforce particularly stressed areas. The sleeves are secured with nest straps and can be removed as desired. The high collar greatly increases the comfort of wearing armor or chainmail pieces on the neck.

Our Corinthian helmet is lined with a comfortable and secure leather lining. A circumference of approx. 68 cm makes almost all head sizes fit. And a sturdy chin strap closed with a beautiful buckle will help keep your helmet in place throughout your battle.
The closure of straps and buckles ensures a firm fit on the foot. The heel cover is reinforced for special use, the sole is fixed in a very stable nailing process.
Medieval Dress, Open Bliaut Amal, Brown
This long, waisted medieval dress is made of cotton fabric. The side seams are open from the hip to the upper arm and feature shoelaces for individual adjustment. The Church did not approve in any way of these side openings that partially revealed the underwear, which explains why they are also called gates of hell . The tie cords are equipped with metal tips to facilitate passage through the sewn eyelets. The so-called Gores (wedge-shaped pieces of fabric) inserted into the side seams and the front and back panels of the skirt give the dress a generous sheen. The wide trumpet sleeves and decorative stitching on the sleeve hem and open side seams give the dress a noble finishing touch.
The cut of the dress is typical of the so-called bliaut (or bliaud) and follows the fashion of the eleventh to thirteenth centuries. Although women's clothing had been cut rather loosely and hiding the figure until then, this era saw the emergence of increasingly tight clothing. The Bliaut was initially an outer dress of the court, as the wide sleeves were not suitable for the working classes. Over time, this type of dress also gained popularity among the middle class, but it was more commonly equipped with straight-cut sleeves. It was not only worn by women, but also by men - in this case, as a knee-length outer garment.
The Bliaut was notably characterized by waist-high side openings and trumpet sleeves. Although the Hell's gates at first looked like a wider cut and slightly large cavities, they gradually became larger over time, until they finally extended to the hips. The trumpet sleeves could also take on extreme shapes, sometimes reaching the floor. The Bliaut used to be combined with a shirt or shirt, a veil and a narrow belt.
Historical illustrations of bliauts can be found, among others, in the fresco showing Sant'Elena in the basilica of San Lorenzo in Milan or in the Hortus Deliciarum, from the late twelfth century. encyclopedic compendium.
