Tachi Katana, Cold Steel

The Tachi was the sword of the Samurai before its necessary evolution into the katana after the first Mongol invasion of Japan. The Tachi was a lighter, smaller, more elegant sword that was more curved and made to be used with one hand. His accessories were beautiful and very distinctive. After the katana had been in use for some time, there was a period in Japan that went back to the ancient samurai before the fourteenth century. A style of katana was designed with classic Tachi accessories, the distinctive Tsuba, fuchi, and kashira, and saya accessories that created a beautiful subset of katana. The Cold Steel Tachi Katana is a representation of these unique and beautiful swords with its forged bent Damascus blade and beautiful golden accessories.

Duncan Mac Leod's sword is a katana, with a dragon's head, that was given by samurai warrior Hideo Koto in 1778 during his travels to Japan. Duncan should have inherited the Claymore from his (adopted) father, Chief of Clan MacLeod, but because he was exiled, the sword was kept within the clan. (In one episode, he finds his father's claymore hanging as an antique in a Scottish tavern and uses it to kill the immortal who killed his father sometime after he was exiled.) In fact, Duncan usually tries to avoid killing mortals, even when he is forced to fight them, and strives to use non-lethal methods.
