15th-century English Falchion Sword - 2

15th-century English Falchion Sword

€856.80
Availability: 2 In Stock

The original of this sword or falchion of English infantry from the late fifteenth century has been in the Royal Armouries collection since 1916 (object number IX.144.). Its exact origin before this time is unknown.

This type of short sword was a popular weapon for collectors and archers during the War of the Roses and early Tudor period. Thousands of these swords were used in battles such as Towton, Barnet, Tewkesbury and Bosworth.

This example has a single-edged blade with subtle transitions along the cross section, a smart hollow grinding, and a fuller one. The graceful blade has a slender but strong tip and a thick spine that can withstand the rigors of combat against armored opponents in monkeys, mesh dimensions and plates.

This is a replica of a sword from a wire from the mid-fifteenth century. The original was excavated in France (probably found at the site of the battle of Castillon-la-Bataille in 1453). The sword of one hand belongs to a group of more than eighty swords discovered in the same place and has been part of the Royal Armouries collection since 1984, object number IX.2638.

This medieval chivalrous sword has a thin, remarkably wide single-edged blade with a wedge-shaped cross section and a false edge at the back of the blade.
The quillons end in wavy tips, intended to contain the opponent's blade. The asymmetric handle is on the back of the blade and the squatting putt with a smell stopper makes the short handle comfortable to hold. This sword looks pleasantly maneuverable and is surprisingly light compared to its voluminous appearance.

Landsknecht Katzbalger Sword, Reel - 2

Landsknecht Katzbalger Sword, Reel

From the fourteenth century, Swiss pikemen established themselves as dominant mercenaries. But an equally brave and robust competitor appeared later, coming from Germany. The Landsknecht troops challenged Swiss superiority in a "No Quarter" rivalry that lasted for years. The extravagantly dressed German mercenary Landsknecht lived a harsh and brutal life and was famous for his giant two-handed sword Flamberge. After using the Flamberge to break the enemy front-line line of pikemen, a smaller one-handed sword was employed for the ensuing hand-to-hand combat - the Katzbalger.

Not as sophisticated as its somewhat frivolous-looking (but still deadly) older brother, the Katzbalger (which roughly translates to "cat trough") was still highly stylized and was designed to be an effective slash-and-thrust sword. Carried by all Landsknecht troops, including the pikemen and arquebusiers, this sword had an ornate guard in the shape of a closed "S" and an extra-long, fluted hilt. The Katzbalger certainly respected his Renaissance roots. The beautifully rendered grip would make any Landsknecht proud. The fluting on the handle extends perfectly to the wooden handle, and the guard is expertly twisted into a spiral and ends in half spheres. The high-carbon hardened steel blade is adorned with a trio of fullers that lightly illuminate the blade. The black leather scabbard is lightly decorated with leather bands that crisscross each other and are tied near the throat and has a unique steel tip. The guard has approx. 11 cm wide. The blade is disally tapered, which helps to keep the weight of the sword at approx. 1.13kg.

Warlock Two-Handed Sword - Dull Blade - 2

Warlock Two-Handed Sword - Dull Blade

€180.00

This two-handed sword is an interpretation of one of the silver swords from the popular "The Witcher" franchise . In this game from the developer studio CD Projekt RED, the sorcerer Geralt of Rivia always carries with him two types of sword: a steel sword, which he uses in the fight against human and animal opponents, and a silver sword, which the monster hunter uses against many different creatures.

The most distinctive feature of this sword is probably the decorative element on the cross guard. This one is based on the brooch of Renfri from the first episode of the adaptation of the series "The Witcher".

Background of the brooch based on the TV show
The wizard Stregobor attempted to hire Geralt to kill Renfri, as he believed she was under the curse of the Black Sun and thus posed a threat to the entire continent.
Renfri, on the other hand, wanted revenge against Stregobor, as her actions forced her out of her old life. She gathered a band of bandits around her and planned to force the wizard out of her tower with a bloodbath among the residents of Blaviken.
When Geralt tried to dissuade Renfri and his entourage from his plan, a fight broke out between them, from which Geralt emerged as the sole survivor. He took Renfri's pin and attached it to his sword as a reminder not to interfere in human conflicts. As a result of these events, Geralt became known as the "Butcher of Blaviken".

The fullest part of this magnificent 420 high-carbon steel blade is adorned with gold lettering on both sides. Smiling at you at the end of the rim is the ornamental element mentioned above, which merges with the guard and, like the guard, is made of molten zinc. This is followed by approx. Handle with 15 cm in length, decorated with diamond pattern. The whole thing is completed by an ornate pommel with a perfume cap, which is also made of molten zinc. When stowed in its leather-covered scabbard, this sword has approx. 117.5 cm long and weighs approx. 1.75kg.

Seneschal Sword

€330.00
Availability: Out of stock

The original sword on which this replica is based is housed in the French Army Museum in Paris (Musée de l'Armée) and was made in Western Europe between 1300 and 1350, during a transitional period in medieval warfare when mail armor was still dominant but was gradually reinforced with additional plates.

Swords of this type were typically used in conjunction with a buckler or shield, making them versatile revolvers on both the battlefield and civilian level.

This particular sword is a faithful reproduction, carefully crafted to the exact measurements of the original. The leaf has a lenticular cross-section with a channel that ends at two-thirds of its length. The sword is classified as Type XIV due to its relatively short blade, with a sturdy, wide profile that tapers into a strong, sharp tip. This rigid blade is ideal for both cutting and stowing, while its considerable width makes it easy to lock and move the opponent's blade. While most Type XIV swords have curved guards and wheel knobs, this one features a straight guard (Oakeshott Style 2) and a spherical hilt topped by a protruding block. The added riveted button block has a practical function as it provides greater length to the tenon. This design feature makes it easy to disassemble or further modify the bar, ensuring its longevity and adaptability.

Its most distinctive feature is the brass button in the shape of a faceted sphere, with polyhedral faces. While it doesn't exactly fit a single type of Oakeshott, it is very similar to Type R pommels and is reminiscent of those seen later on basket-handled swords, such as those recovered from the sinking of the Mary Rose.

The sword is even more beautiful because of its details in its design. The combination of the red hilt and scabbard with the yellow brass hilt evokes the image of a high-ranking weapon, fit for a nobleman. This attention to detail extends to the brass cap, where the finial reflects the button, creating a cohesive and elegant design.

This is why he is called The Seneschal, le Sénéschal, (Chief or chief of the nobility, whom he ruled, especially in war or Butler of the Royal House) reflecting the authority and importance of a key figure in the medieval hierarchy.
