"According to ancient legends, this gambeson was once created to protect the body of a noble man in countless battles. It rested heavily on his shoulders, softened blows, resisted blades, and protected him in decisive moments of mortal wounds. Hastily patched areas on the shoulder and leg still bear witness to moments when combat has left its marks - when the gambeson was the only thing standing between its wearer and death. This is a garment that offers more than mere protection - it bears the scars of a warrior and the memory of past battles.

The gambeson Vari combines a robust design with a distinctive distressed look and excellent wearing comfort. Its high-quality finish and elaborate details make it a real eye-catcher. It is ideal for fantasy, Viking and medieval reenactments, and is a perfect addition to medieval clothing and costumes.

It is modeled on protective clothing from the late Middle Ages, as it was once worn under chainmail and plate armor. These padded jackets, also known as aketons, not only increased the comfort of the knight's armor, but also cushioned opponents' blows and protected against life-threatening injuries.

Its unique appearance of use is achieved through a special washing process. With its worn areas, distinct repair points, and patch on the hem, it looks like it's seen plenty of battles - and it's ready to write a new story.

The sleeveless gambeson is made of three layers: a durable outer layer of cotton canvas, a middle layer of polyester padding, and a soft inner lining also made of polyester. The medium-thickness padding gives the gambeson its characteristic shape and structural stability, while the polyester lining ensures that the gambeson can be worn comfortably over other clothing.

A collar approx. 5 cm high protects the neck area. The front overlaps the chest area and closes with two distinct leather buckles. The side slits allow for greater freedom of movement. For an authentic, battle-ready look, we recommend pairing the gambeson with a belt, made easier thanks to the specially wide belt loops.

Two wide leather straps on the shoulder can be used to attach pieces of armor, highlighting the practical design of the piece. Vertical padding, built-in sleeves and a slightly fitted fit with a pointed front hem give the gambeson a striking silhouette.

Finely crafted details made of smooth leather and seams with suede edges complete the look, making the Vari a high-quality outdoor piece for re-enactment, LARP, and medieval markets. Whether you're portraying an expert ranger, a fearless Viking, or a proud knight, this gambeson will add something special to your look and transport you back to a long-lost era.

Get your Vari Gambeson now! It's more than just clothes – it's a piece of history waiting to be worn.

Medieval tabard with stripes, blue - yellow

Medieval tabard with stripes, blue - yellow

€40.00
Availability: 40 In Stock

Details:

- One size fits all
- Color: blue/yellow
- Material: 100% cotton
- Total length in size L: approx. 124 cm (measured in the center of the back)
- Care instructions: We recommend hand washing, otherwise discoloration may occur.

This calf length tabard is made of cotton fabric. It is cut straight and open on the sides. With a small ribbon at the waist, the tabard is closed and adjusted individually. The yellow fabric applied in the shape of an arrow on a blue background has a high recognition value.

The tabard (also called tunic, dress, tappert, or surcot) appeared in the 12th century and was worn by knights over armor or chain armor. It protected the wearer from sunlight on the battlefield and, through the different color combinations, made it clear in the battle fight who was an enemy and who was a friend.
There are numerous depictions of medieval tunics, for example, in the Maciejowski Bible (also Crusader Bible), a medieval Bible from the 13th century, and in the Codex Manesse, a manuscript of songs from the early 14th century.

Typical of the tunic is the simple and straight cut. To give the tunic a little waist, we recommend combining it with a leather belt.

Seneschal Sword

€330.00
Availability: Out of stock

The original sword on which this replica is based is housed in the French Army Museum in Paris (Musée de l'Armée) and was made in Western Europe between 1300 and 1350, during a transitional period in medieval warfare when mail armor was still dominant but was gradually reinforced with additional plates.

Swords of this type were typically used in conjunction with a buckler or shield, making them versatile revolvers on both the battlefield and civilian level.

This particular sword is a faithful reproduction, carefully crafted to the exact measurements of the original. The leaf has a lenticular cross-section with a channel that ends at two-thirds of its length. The sword is classified as Type XIV due to its relatively short blade, with a sturdy, wide profile that tapers into a strong, sharp tip. This rigid blade is ideal for both cutting and stowing, while its considerable width makes it easy to lock and move the opponent's blade. While most Type XIV swords have curved guards and wheel knobs, this one features a straight guard (Oakeshott Style 2) and a spherical hilt topped by a protruding block. The added riveted button block has a practical function as it provides greater length to the tenon. This design feature makes it easy to disassemble or further modify the bar, ensuring its longevity and adaptability.

Its most distinctive feature is the brass button in the shape of a faceted sphere, with polyhedral faces. While it doesn't exactly fit a single type of Oakeshott, it is very similar to Type R pommels and is reminiscent of those seen later on basket-handled swords, such as those recovered from the sinking of the Mary Rose.

The sword is even more beautiful because of its details in its design. The combination of the red hilt and scabbard with the yellow brass hilt evokes the image of a high-ranking weapon, fit for a nobleman. This attention to detail extends to the brass cap, where the finial reflects the button, creating a cohesive and elegant design.

This is why he is called The Seneschal, le Sénéschal, (Chief or chief of the nobility, whom he ruled, especially in war or Butler of the Royal House) reflecting the authority and importance of a key figure in the medieval hierarchy.
