The round shield boss (the so-called umbo) that we offer here is the perfect accessory for ambitious reenactors who want to build their own Roman shield. It is ideal for a parma, but can also be used on a shield (note that the protrusion is not bent, so if it is mounted on curved armor, it must be adapted to the curvature of the armor before mounting).
The protrusion is made of brass, blackened on the reverse side, and has four pre-drilled holes to attach it to your shield. Mounting hardware (screws with rounded brass heads) is included in delivery.

This shield is a reduced reproduction of an ancient tower shield (called scutum) from the 1/2nd century AD, as it was carried by legionnaires during the Roman Empire. Bokken ("wooden sword") is the Japanese term in kenjutsu for a wood-shaped katana. Used to train samurai in feudal Japan, it is now used as a training weapon in various Japanese sword arts. Some other martial arts (and all pedants) call it bokuto ("wooden sword").
A suburito is a bokken designed for suburi. Suburi, literally "naked cut," are solo cutting exercises.
