He wielded the ancient sword of Girion and was the guardian of Dale's last Black Arrow, which he used to kill the great dragon Smaug during the attack on Lake City. Bard then fought alongside the elves and dwarves against the armies of Azog in the Battle of the Five Armies. The Sword of the Bard the Archer features a motif-bearing handle of the old Dale design, with a pommel in the shape of twin bird heads and a leather-engraved hilt with a feather pattern overlaid to scale. The blade is adorned with engraved grooves and an engraving rune.
