Bainite is a high carbon steel structure that combines great strength with excellent flexibility and shock absorption characteristics. It is known as an exemplary component of the Katana blade for several years, but its use has been restricted to some first-class blacksmith masters due to the difficulties involved in performing the precise heat treatment procedures required for the production of a Bainite. blade body in combination with the very harsh Martensita Yakiba (edge section) required for the Katana blades.

Hanwei now dominates this difficult process, using L-6 steel billets for tools (a low alloy steel and very resistant high carbon content) as a starting point for this katana. The blades are forged and molded in the normal way, then carefully heat treated to obtain the necessary bainite and martensite structures before final polishing.

This fully articulated, wearable reconstruction of a late medieval plate armor for the legs is made of 1.2 mm (18 gauge) steel and blackened on the inside for better corrosion resistance. It is designed to protect the legs from the thighs to the upper shins and shows the typical multi-layered appearance of the Gothic plate armor of the late Middle Ages (15th/16th century).

The leg protection consists of a poleyn (kneecap, also known as genouillere), a cuisse, and a short greva. For adequate freedom of movement, all parts are connected to each other by sliding plates or lames that are hinged on sturdy steel rivets.
On the back, each leg is equipped with three riveted, adjustable leather straps approx. 2 mm thick with brass buckles for a comfortable and personalized fit.

The edges are adorned with grooves and small steel rivets, and the poleyns feature slightly concave, flower-shaped steel rondels that are riveted to the sides (see also our besagews – product no. 1016634200).

This articulated leg harness is ideal for late medieval and Renaissance environments. Equally suitable for the portrayal of a wide range of historical figures and fictional/fantasy characters, it will make your transformation into a proud and noble knight or warrior perfect, whether used for medieval reenactment, LARP, stage, TV/film, fantasy or cosplay.
