This loose cut dress is made of durable cotton canvas and comes with a fabric belt. Contrasting details of colors make it stand out from the crowd.

The split neck can be worn open or closed with a fibula or brooch. Central and side gums (wedge-shaped pieces of fabric) inserted into the rectangular front and rear panels give the hem a proper widening. The underwear is equipped with reinforcements (square pieces of fabric inserted into the seams). The strong canvas fabric creates a sturdy and heavy dress, therefore more suitable for spring or autumn.

The cut of this dress is based on archaeological finds dating back to the 9th and 10th centuries. The women's garment of the time was characterized by long dresses with patterns composed mainly of rectangular and triangular pieces of fabric sewn together, in order to waste as little material as possible.

Such clothing patterns are clearly recognizable in textile and clothing fragments found in Skjoldehamn, Birka and Hedeby. The dress is therefore ideal for an authentic representation of a Viking child.

A cloak was part of all basic equipment in the Middle Ages and protected ordinary citizens from wind and weather. It was available in a variety of lengths, with and without a hood, and in a variety of cuts. There are several ways to close the cover: fibula, chains, ribbons or later buttons.

Our long-cut cover fastens with a wooden button and a loop. It is made of plain cotton and has a hood.

Please note: The cotton fabric is not water-repellent, but can be treated with a waterproofing spray to keep out light rains.

That way only the cover is sold! The other parts are separated from each other online.

Generally worn by ordinary people as protection from the elements, the cloaks could be of different lengths, with or without a hood, and came in a variety of styles or patterns. There were numerous ways to fasten this particular type of coat or cape – with a fibula (brooch), a small chain, ties or, later, buttons.

Our body-length hooded robe is made of plain cotton and closes on the front with a single button and wooden clip.

We would like to point out that cotton fabric is not waterproofed. However, it can be easily treated with a water-repellent spray to resist light rain.

This medieval tunic is part of Battle-Merchant's line of period clothing and medieval clothing for men, women, and children. From the first sketch to the last stitch, this piece was planned, designed and handmade with special attention to detail. Our clothes are modeled (sometimes accurately, sometimes not so accurately) on historical examples, grave finds, and original museum pieces where they exist.
