The large and beautiful Viking shield we offer here is made of approx. Plywood 13 mm thick and elaborately adorned with two crows. The motif of the twin bird is a representation of Odin's faithful messengers, Hugin and Munin (or Huginn and Muninn), a recurring theme in Viking art. In Norse mythology, crows fly over Asgard and Midgard and return every night to the father of all gods (also known as Hrafnáss, the "crow god") to tell him everything they saw and heard.

At its center, the shell features a generously sized steel protrusion that is firmly fastened in place with four rivets and leaves enough room to accommodate even the robust Viking hands. The shell edge is coated with hide (parchment) and the back is equipped with three riveted wooden reinforcing slats. The central slat also functions as a strap and is sldesigned in leather in its intermediate section for a comfortable grip.

While this medieval wooden shield may be a little too thin for full contact, it's still a great accessory for re-enactment, LARP, stage or TV/movie and will make its transformation into a proud Nordic warrior just perfect. In addition, it is also a beautiful collectible or exhibition piece for all Viking Age enthusiasts.
