The Viking seax comes with a thick vegetable tanned leather hem with aged brass accessories - reinforcing plates, rivets and two hanging rings.
Note that this Viking knife is designed primarily as a piece of decoration or collectible accessory and in no way suitable for combat reenactment! The tip of the blade is not rounded, and the edge is not sharp, but slightly ground (approx. 1 mm thick).

This is a beautiful reconstruction of a typical short saxophone knife from the early Middle Ages. These knives were very popular among the Germanic tribes. They didn't just use the knives as weapon, but also, or even more, as a tool for cutting, beating, or carving. The guard consists of two steel discs to fix the horn plate decorated with two rivets. The handle is also made of steel, and the handle is made of leather. The blade is not sharp.
The knife will be delivered along with the leather scabbard shown.

This small Viking-era saxophone knife (also known as broken seax due to its particular blade shape) has a short high carbon steel blade hand-forged with a thick spine. The attractive polished bone handle is beautifully engraved on both sides with a Borre-style Nordic motif (ca. 850-950 AD) and ends toward the blade with a brass collar. The breech cover, also made of brass, features a convenient steel eyelet with a brass ring to thread a cord or pull the knife from its sheath (cord not included).
Although most popularly associated with the Vikings, seax, also called scramasax, was used throughout the spectrum of Germanic, Scandinavian, and Saxon/Anglo-Saxon societies from the migration period to the early Middle Ages. Carried by men and women, it was a multifunctional blade that served as weapon of war, day-to-day tool or prestigious object. Surviving specimens provide evidence that this particular type of knife or Dagger can not only vary greatly in shape and design, but also in quality - ranging from simple and coarse examples to sumptuous and elaborately adorned luxury pieces - and size.
In terms of size, the handmade Viking-era sax knife we offer here stands on the threshold between a long dagger and a short sword. It features an EN45 unsharp steel blade of a edge with a thick spine, a pointed tip and a full spike that is threaded into the pommel. The guard and pommel are both cast in steel and the handle of the wooden core is firmly wrapped in wire. All the pieces have been darkened, which makes the handle really attractive and gives the medieval knife an elegant but gloomy and rustic character.

This Viking Age knife features a sharp high-carbon steel blade. The wooden handle ends on both sides with bone and brass rings. It has an oval cross section that ensures a solid grip to the knife. The brass cover is equipped with a convenient drawstring hole (the leather drawstring is included in the delivery).
The beautiful leather hem with brass period accessories is equipped with three brass rings and belt straps for typical Viking-style horizontal transport. The bows are adorned with stylized animal-shaped heads, modeled on finds by Björkö / Birka, Sweden.
