Viking sword with sheath
Viking Sword of Eigg Island with Scabbard, 9th c., Decoration Sword
This beautiful Viking sword is based on a silver-encrusted bronze handle excavated in 1830 on the Isle of Eigg, Inner Hebrides, Scotland. Although some parts of the blade have also been found, they no longer survive. The original and well-detailed discovery of the burial is on display at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Dating back to the 9th or early 10th century, this finely crafted piece of Viking history is classified as a Type D according to Petersen's Viking sword typology.
