The Praying Mantis is a symbol of cunning and power in Japanese culture and is
consequently, a highly respected theme in samurai swords.
Built in the new Hanwei L6/Bainite blade in Shobu Zukuri style with Bo-Hi, and featuring excellent
koshirae, the Mantis Katana is a very desirable and functional piece.
The soft green yo-green and deep brown of the laqueado saya provide a beautiful contrast with
the dark and golden copper accents of the tsuba, fuchi and kashira.
The praying mantis is waiting for his next prey, reflecting the power
and grace in this exceptional Katana.
Bainita is a high carbon steel structure that combines great strength with excellent
flexibility and shock absorption characteristics. It is known as an exemplary Katana
blade component for several years, but its use was restricted to some first-class masters
blacksmiths due to the difficulties involved in the execution of the demanding heat treatment procedures
necessary for the production of a Bainita blade body in combination with the very hard Martensite
Yakiba (edge section) required for Katana blades.
Hanwei now mastered this difficult process, using l-6 tool steel billets (a very sturdy
low carbon alloy steel) as a starting point for this katana. Blades are forged and molded
in the normal way, then carefully heat treated to obtain the necessary structures of Bainita and Martensite before final polishing.

Tinker big war sword
