A great promoter of the process of reconquest, he conquered the cities of Seville, capital of the Almohades, Jaén, Córdoba, whose mosque turned into cathedral and Murcia, forcing the Muslim kingdoms to return.

He imposed Castilian as the official language of his kingdoms instead of Latin, and tried to unify and centralize the administration of the Castilian and Leonian kingdoms. He divided the new lands conquered between the military orders, the Church and the nobles, which resulted in the formation of great estates. In the cultural and religious field, he ordered the construction of the cathedrals of Burgos and León. He worked hard because his court gave importance to music and good literary discourse: his son King Alfonso X the Wise was one of the great drivers of culture in the Middle Ages.

The body of King Ferdinand III the Saint was buried in seville cathedral three days after his death

His son Alfonso X El Sabio, in one of his works, "The Seven Games", highlighted the four values that every sword should incorporate: Cordura, Fortaleza, Medição and Justiça.

His famous sword is known as the Lobera Sword, now preserved as a relic in Seville Cathedral, where every year it is removed in procession to commemorate the Reconquest of Seville in 1248. It was the symbol of the power of Ferdinand III and so on. It will appear in many engravings, with sword and orb in hand, instead of the traditional scepter.  On his deathbed, Ferdinand III, addressing his youngest son, D. Manuel, said to him: "I cannot give an inheritance, but pigeon my sword Lobera, which is a thing of great virtue and with which I entrust God to me very well. Lobera was a faithful companion on her glorious path, served as an altar in her prayers and as a righteous scepter in her royal works.
