We recommend that you wear klappenrock with a belt as it closes in the same way as a current bathrobe. Please note that the belt is not included in the delivery and must be purchased separately.
Klappenrock (also known as a warrior's coat or coat) originates in the eurasian riding nomads (i.e., the Huns and the Avars) and found its way to the West during the migration period and the Middle Ages. The Vikings and Rus people adopted this specific type of coat and added decorative fabric trims to the piece. A Nordic klappenrock usually features front angled flaps that overlap diagonally and are held together with a belt.
Historical depictions of coatings can be found, for example, in the 7th-century Sutton Hoo and Valsgärde helmets. The klappenrock was usually combined with a tunic and baggy pants. The warrior motifs found in the surviving helmets suggest that it was not only used in everyday life, but also in battle.
