Roman Buch-Podlodów type Spatha with sheath, 3rd century .C., sword decoration

This Roman Spatha is a reconstruction based on several third original c. examples found near Podlodów (present-day Poland) in the archaeological region of przeworsk culture. A few more Podlodów-type blades were also found along or near Limes, the border of the Roman Empire. It is assumed that most of these spatulas originated from Roman blacksmiths and had eventually found their way beyond the borders of the Empire to Barbaricum.

Although the length of the blade was not very different from its previous counterparts, this specific spatha variant featured a wider blade typically two to four fullers and is believed to have been designed as an effective cutting sword for close combat.

The wide, double and double-edged blade of the Roman long sword we offer here is forged in EN45 spring steel. The edges are not sharp and the complete blade spike is screwed into the pommel. The handle with flattened, oval and pommel and cleft cuff is made of wood with brass inlays.

This one-hand Roman sword comes complete with a wooden hem and red leather with brass plate and hanging clip (maximum belt width 5 cm), accented with black drawstring trims.

Note that this sword is not a weapon ready for battle. It is designed as a collector's piece or decoration/display and is not suitable for combat reenactment. In addition to its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as support, for example to complete your fantasy.
