Looking for a sturdy, high-quality hand armor that won't break your budget? Well, you've come to the right place! These beautiful plate armor gauntlets offer great value for money.
In the late Middle Ages and Renaissance, plated gauntlets were an essential part of armor, protecting the hands and wrists both on the battlefield and during jousting tournaments.
The battle gauntlets that we offer here as a pair are also known as glove gauntlets, half-gauntlets, Semi-gauntlets or semi-gauntlets. These fingerless, "glove" style gauntlets, worn with gloves underneath, are designed to protect the wrist, back of the hand, base of the fingers, and full thumb. They did not offer the same protection as fully coated gauntlets, but allowed full use of the fingers.
This particular type is an Old Maximilian style, called Schott-Sonnenberg. Maximilian's armor was developed as an alternative to Gothic armor, which was also popular at the same time. It takes its name from Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor from 1493 to 1519, and was used in Germany in the last years of the 15th century and the first quarter of the 16th century. The Schott-Sonnenberg type was a brief transitional style that lacked the decorative fluting that adorned the later style, the classical Maximilian armor.
Our Maximilian gauntlets are handmade from approximately 1.6 mm thick steel (slight variations in steel thickness may occur due to the manufacturing process). The interior is blackened for better corrosion resistance. For adequate freedom of movement, the back of the hand, thumb and wrist are composed of sliding or lame plates hinged on sturdy, decorative brass rivets. The base of the forearm is protected by a long, pointed cuff, which is also adorned with brass rivets. The lower edge of the cuff and the upper edge of the upper limp are curled.
These dish gloves not only offer an authentic look and flexibility, but also comfort of use. This is ensured by integrated gloves made of soft but sturdy suede that are firmly riveted at the thumb. Each thumb is also equipped with an additional stitched leather pad. Two riveted straps made of robust leather approx. 3 mm thick are attached to each glove on the inside, providing a secure hold .
Suitable for light combat reenactment/stage fighting, this pair of fully usable steel gauntlets is best suited for me late dieval scenarios and ideal for completing the armor of a European knight.
Our handmade articulated glove gauntlets not only impress with their combination of safety, mobility and comfort, but are also simply a real eye-catcher. And they're affordable, too! So, take your chance today and order this beautiful piece of history that will add the finishing touch to your medieval knight's armor!
The steel used here is not rust-proof and may have slight surface stains in places. We recommend that you regularly maintain the plate handles, for example using Ballistol Universal Oil, which is ideal for steel care.
