SWORD COMMEMORATING THE EIGHTH CENTENARY OF THE BIRTH OF ALFONSO X THE WISE

Spanish sword of the thirteenth century, with a long and wide blade, with two points and a trimmed tip, with a very stretched channel in the center, and gradually decreasing in the last third. Double-edged blade with prominent engravings.

The trim is composed of an arriaz with overgilded silver bath, arms arched towards the leaf, ending in pointed clovers.

In the center of the cross or guard are the arms of Castile on one side and the lion on the other.

The handle is silver-plated on gilded carving on the edges and flats. It is cylindrical, almond-shaped and with an overlapping mesh in a Gothic style.

The pommel is silver-plated on gold in the shape of a flowered ataurich, similar to those that are stamped and gracefully adorn their edges. It is irregularly shaped, with mesh also chiseled in the same style as the cuff.

This sword consists of a chiseled cross with hawks curved towards the blade ending in a clover leaf.

From the fourteenth century, Swiss pikemen established themselves as dominant mercenaries. But an equally brave and robust competitor appeared later, coming from Germany. The Landsknecht troops challenged Swiss superiority in a "No Quarter" rivalry that lasted for years. The extravagantly dressed German mercenary Landsknecht lived a harsh and brutal life and was famous for his giant two-handed sword Flamberge. After using the Flamberge to break the enemy front-line line of pikemen, a smaller one-handed sword was employed for the ensuing hand-to-hand combat - the Katzbalger.

Not as sophisticated as its somewhat frivolous-looking (but still deadly) older brother, the Katzbalger (which roughly translates to "cat trough") was still highly stylized and was designed to be an effective slash-and-thrust sword. Carried by all Landsknecht troops, including the pikemen and arquebusiers, this sword had an ornate guard in the shape of a closed "S" and an extra-long, fluted hilt. The Katzbalger certainly respected his Renaissance roots. The beautifully rendered grip would make any Landsknecht proud. The fluting on the handle extends perfectly to the wooden handle, and the guard is expertly twisted into a spiral and ends in half spheres. The high-carbon hardened steel blade is adorned with a trio of fullers that lightly illuminate the blade. The black leather scabbard is lightly decorated with leather bands that crisscross each other and are tied near the throat and has a unique steel tip. The guard has approx. 11 cm wide. The blade is disally tapered, which helps to keep the weight of the sword at approx. 1.13kg.

Duncan MacLeod's sword is a dragon-headed katana that he received from samurai Hideo Koto while traveling in Japan in 1778. Duncan was supposed to inherit the claymore from his (adopted) father, the head of Clan MacLeod, but since it was banished, the sword has remained in the clan's possession. (In one episode, he finds his father's claymore as an antique in a Scottish pub and uses it to kill an immortal who killed his father sometime after his banishment.) This magnificent set of 3 swords consists of a katana, wakizashi and somewhat



element. The blade has a unique and unmistakable serrated edge. It is polished and made of 440 stainless steel. The handle was manufactured using traditional manufacturing methods.
